Pictures of Tulips, Narcissus and Hyacinth fields in Holland.
In Holland the most important tulips area is the Bollenstreek ("Flower-Bulbregion").
It is part of the area just behind the seashore between
Amsterdam and the Hague.
More precisely this area of tulips is located west of Hillegom, Lisse and
Sassenheim in the south bordered by Rijnsburg.
It is an area with sandy (dune) soil where different flowers like tulips,
hyacinths and narcissus are grown by farmers.
In this area one can also find the Keukenhof.
Pictures are made at the beginning of April 2004/5/6
At this time of the year it's rather cold and sometimes windy.
I learned from a farmer not to walk between Hyacinths to prevent spreading
virusses.
Walking between beds of Narcissus and Tulips is not harmful for the plants.
The buds of most Tulips are not at this time of the year but Narcissus and Hyacinths were
prospering abundantly.
Of special interest is the vehicle shown in 2 pictures.
It was made by the farmer himself and powered by a battery.
Two people sitting in the vehicle were able to remove diseased narcissus plants
from the field.
The vehicle provided necessary low light conditions and protected them from
rain.
